The living room is a place where most of us relax as we are entertained by our TVs, and where we entertain others, so it’s an area where we like our surroundings to be both comfortable and stylish. These two large footstools have been pushed together to form an extra lounging spot, and a sofa table placed across them forms an excellent bridging table on which to hold a laptop or magazine. The best part about this kind of arrangement is that is can be broken up to once again serve its purpose by the sofa, as two individual footrests and a handy side table–thus freeing up the space for other uses.

Contrasting, stand-out items of furniture almost demand their own zone, perfect for creating stand-alone reading areas.

The sharp look of hard-lined sofas can be softened with the presence of adjacent rounder items.

Open plan schemes benefit from open cornered sofas, which allow the eye–and the home owner–to move freely from one area to the next.
